米6月CPIが予想を下振れ、FRBの早期利上げ観測が後退したことで、一時161.60円前後まで下落した。もっとも、足もとでは原油価格が反発しており米国のインフレも7月には反発するとの見方が強いことから、売り一巡後は買い戻しが優勢となり162円台を回復した

Although President Donald Trump has withdrawn his proposal to place the Strait of Hormuz under U.S. control and impose a 20% transit fee on commercial shipping, the United States and Iran continued exchanging attacks yesterday. As a result, persistent uncertainty surrounding the Middle East is likely to remain an underlying source of support for dollar/yen, as geopolitical risks continue to favor the U.S. dollar.
On the other hand, weaker-than-expected U.S. June CPI data have reduced expectations for an early Federal Reserve rate hike, diminishing the incentive for investors to aggressively increase long U.S. dollar positions. With monetary policy expectations becoming less supportive of the dollar, upside momentum is likely to be more measured.
Taken together, these opposing forces suggest that dollar/yen is likely to maintain its gradual upward bias. Geopolitical uncertainty should continue to provide downside support for the pair, while fading expectations of near-term Fed tightening are expected to prevent a sharp acceleration in dollar gains.
