月末・四半期・半期末の実需に絡むドル買いや、日本の財政悪化懸念による円売りで162.00円を上抜けると円売り・ドル買いが加速し、162.67円前後まで上昇した。強い米5月JOLTS求人件数を受けて、2日発表の米6月雇用統計への警戒感が高まっていることも、ドル買い材料となった。

Yesterday, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said that he “would not be surprised if the June employment report comes in strong.” Combined with the increase in May JOLTS job openings, the remarks have heightened market attention ahead of the release of the U.S. June nonfarm payrolls report on July 2.
Before then, today’s focus will be on the U.S. June ADP National Employment Report, which is widely regarded as a leading indicator for the official payrolls data. Should the ADP figures exceed market expectations, the U.S. dollar would likely extend its gains, driving dollar/yen higher.
As for the possibility of yen-buying intervention, Japanese Finance Minister Katayama again sought to curb yen weakness yesterday by warning that the government stands ready to take “decisive action.” However, the absence of stronger or more explicit rhetoric has led some market participants to conclude that intervention is unlikely in the near term.
While concerns over potential intervention are likely to persist, a stronger-than-expected U.S. economic report could provide the catalyst for dollar/yen to extend its advance toward the 163 level.
