Over the weekend, reports emerged of a renewed exchange of attacks between the United States and Iran, as well as Iranian missile strikes against Israel. With negotiations aimed at ending the conflict widely seen as facing significant difficulties, the market environment is likely to remain supportive of the U.S. dollar.
While the dollar/yen pair is expected to maintain its broader uptrend of dollar strength and yen weakness, several factors could limit the pace of further yen depreciation. These include growing market caution over the possibility of yen-buying intervention by the Japanese authorities, as well as downward pressure on cross-yen pairs stemming from movements in the major dollar pairs. As a result, a rapid acceleration in yen weakness appears unlikely.
